This month we welcomed back, Jeni Neale, a botanical artist who had come to demonstrate watercolour painting on velum (veal skin). She explained the quality of velum, it is very transparent and shows up the luminosity of the paint not found in a traditional watercolour. Jeni explained the importance of the velum being dry. She applied pumice to the skin to remove any moisture.
We enjoyed watching Jeni meticulously painting a flower and its petals, using a photograph as her source. She built it up slowly and patiently to create a lovely three dimensional quality. It made for a wonderful, mindful, evening.
